Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
The Northern Vibe Project is an independent Canadian political analysis platform. We build tools to make federal electoral data more accessible to Canadians. Questions about this policy can be directed to contact@northernvibe.ca.
2. What data we collect
Northern Vibe does not require an account. We do not sell your data, we do not serve ads, and we do not track you across other websites. We receive limited information in the following circumstances:
- If you email us at contact@northernvibe.ca — we receive whatever information you include in that message (e.g. your name, email address, message content).
- If you submit our feedback survey (hosted on Google Forms) — responses are stored in Google's infrastructure and subject to Google's privacy policy. You may choose to include contact information in your response, but it is not required.
- If you sign up for riding alerts or the newsletter — we store your email address, the ridings you chose to watch, your notification preferences, and, as required by Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL), the IP address and timestamp of your consent. We only email addresses that have confirmed their subscription by clicking the link in our confirmation message.
- If you make a donation — payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your card details; we are told only that a payment succeeded.
- Whenever you load a page — we use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, cookie-free page-view statistics (page, referrer, country, device type; no cross-site identifiers), and Sentry for error monitoring, which records technical details when something breaks, including the page, browser, and IP address. Session recording and replay are disabled.
3. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking, and our analytics does not set cookies. Your browser stores a few small preferences on your device so the site behaves consistently between visits: your light/dark theme, any ridings you have starred to watch, and whether you have dismissed the map hint and introductory tips. This data stays on your device and is never sent to us. Your language preference (EN/FR) is carried in the page address rather than stored.
4. Third-party services
The following third-party services are used by the site and have their own privacy policies:
- MapLibre + OpenFreeMap — powers the interactive riding map; Mapbox — postal code lookups and pre-rendered riding map images
- Google Forms — used for our feedback survey
- Vercel — hosts the site, and provides the aggregate page-view analytics described above
- Sentry — error and performance monitoring, so we can diagnose faults
- Resend — delivers confirmation and alert emails; Stripe — processes donations
We have no advertising relationships and load no third-party ad scripts. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.
5. How we use your information
If you contact us by email or feedback form, we use that information solely to respond to your message and improve the platform. If you subscribe to riding alerts or the newsletter, we use your address only to send the updates you asked for. Analytics and error data are used only to understand which parts of the site are used and to fix what is broken. We do not use any of it for advertising, and we do not retain it beyond what is reasonably necessary.
6. Your rights (Canadian residents)
Under PIPEDA, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you. To make a request, email contact@northernvibe.ca. If you receive our emails, every message includes an unsubscribe link, and the preferences link in any alert email lets you review and change everything stored about your subscription, or delete it outright.
7. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
